RedHat 9.0 GUI problem
« on: 8 September 2003, 08:45 »
One day while i was installing a newer version of Mozilla on my Red Hat Linux 9.0 system i got some errors and it made my system go extremelly slow, But i some how managed to log out. While it was logging off it gave me an "x" error (?????). When it finnished logging off it wasnt in a GUI mode it was in a text based mode. So i guess it was just a small problem, NO, i restarted the system to see if that would help but while it was booting 1, 2, or 3 things failed. I will get those things just as soon as i get back into Red Hat. It just went back into the text based logon screen. Please help with my problem!!!

do you remember what those errors were? do you know what things failed to start at startup?

try logging in at the text based login and type "startx" to start the GUI. Will it start?

Try this.

$su
<enter password>
#cp /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.old /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

I cant tell you how many times this has saved me after I had problems with X.
