well, i'm VERY surprised that so many people in the poll said linux was better, in a forum which looks like it's for music, because, as you say, there's seemingly very little out there for audio manipulation in linux.

What we need is a program like GIMP but for audio editing. I always said sound forge was the photoshop of sound.

Anyway, i think PhatMan is being a bit defeatist when he says he is stuck with a windows box. He could easily dual boot. I am sure burning CDs would be a lot more stable for him in linux for example (so long as he doesn't have a USB CDWriter  :(  ), there's bound to be other things you could do more stable in linux than windows.

But as you say, until and unless.

A couple of things though. While windows tends to crash and burn at the most random and irritating of times, now i think of it it has NEVER crashed for me while i was using Sound Forge, and i've been using it for a while now. As you know sound forge is pretty CPU intensive as well. It must just know how to deal with windows properly!!

Also, if you want to find out what audio software DOES exist for linux, go here. Maybe you should post this link on that board too for others who may care.
And let me know if any of those programs are better than average, as i haven't had a chance to try them out yet...

yeah, well i meant by percentage. i mean as far as i know there aren't any programs for linux that compare with sound forge, so why did 4 people vote as if there were? did they find some programs i didn't know about?

I'm not going to vote either, but you should zombie, since it's local to you and all that!
