no bison/yacc package installed?
« on: 8 January 2003, 23:40 »
I am running madrake 9 and I am trying to install winex.  I get an error saying that it couldn't find a bison/yacc package and that I needed to install it.  Can anyone help me with this?  I have no idea what this is.

Use the Software Manager (it was called that in the last version of Mandrake I used). That just gives you a big list of packages you can choose from. Or you could manually look for them on the cds.

Correct me if i'm wrong but doesn't the Mandrake 9.0 version of urpmi source packages for you in an apt-get like fashion?

well there's a kind of package manager thing if you go into the 'mandrake control center' (not the KDE or GNOME control centers) and it does allow you to install stuff off the CDs (the binary CDs anyway) and it does sugary things for you like satisfying dependencies and so forth.

so was i when i tried that apt-get for rpm thing. it does not work with mandrake. it needs to be red hat for it to work properly. the reason is that red hat's directory structure includes directories called things like 'redhat' and this confuses red hat rpms trying to work with mandrake rpms trying to work with... well you get the idea.

I am sure it exists because there are apt for rpm repositories for mandrake. Why would it have the repositories if the client app didnt work?

WOW!!!!
really? i was under the impression it would have to be mandrake! that was one of the main reasons i put red hat 8.0 on my new machine instead of mandrake 9.0, so i could use the apt-get thing for rpm (except my serial modem is incredibly slow and i can't figure out why). Good to hear there are repositories for mandrake but... how would one get all that working?

i know but i followed those instructions in mandrake and kept having conflicts and dependency errors. and that was before i could even get the program to install (which i couldn't because of conflicts). that's why i thought it would only work with red hat...

Calum, I found these files on rpmseek.com

http://rpmseek.com/rpm/apt-devel-0.3.19cnc55-2mdk.i586.html?hl=com&cs=apt-devel N:0:0:0:365587

I know you installed Red Hat now but since you told us that you still preferred Mandrake, maybe you could install a dual-boot and try this out .....

Cool, if it works and there are good repositories I will add an apt-get HOWTO for Mandrake. Hopefully someone who runs Mandrake can actually provide me with the information and the differences to my current Red Hat instructions.
Someone please remove this account. Thanks...

I think this is a repository from a guy Texstar from pclinuxonline.com.
He was in practically every link I clicked for apt-get + Mandrake so I figure he must either be good or the only one
