Linux and me in the Twilight Zone.
« on: 23 September 2002, 06:20 »
This is VERY confusing to me.

Its a twisted tale and I will make it short and simple.

I HAD RH and Win98 in two different drives. I did a fuck up and said fak this, am gonna have only Linux in my PC.

Took my 3rd HD installed RH all fine and well.

An hour ago i decided to hook up the old RH Hard drive in and HOLLY SHIT!!!!!

I dont have access on the latest install I did on RH but I have access to the previous installation. And this is not the weird thing.

On the 1st install of RH i didnt have KDE or the  latest NVIDIA drivers, and now taraaaaaa there they are.

You might say, you idiot you are accessing the latest RH install.

Not so, because in the previous install I had a file with 100 MP3s calles GeosMusic, that I never had in the latest install of RH, along with other files.

You confused? No shit, i am having a seizor now.

Its all good, but how the hell this happened? Is this a RH fature i dont know of?
Yeah

That's because the first HD's MBR only had an entery for your old Red Hat, not the new one. You just need to update Grub/Lilo.

As for the driver thing, I have no idea.

i see what you are saying but how can you explain the fact that in the previous install I didnt have KDE and now it shows up.

And again keep in mind, this is the previous install that am using because I see files I had only in the previous install and files i had in the latest install are a no show, like wallpaper, Videos  and so on.

 Tis way out there.
Yeah

Which drives were master/slave on what IDE channels prior to adding the third drive, and where in that mess was the third drive added? Remember if you insert a drive your boot parameters would change. hd(0) may no longer be hd(0), etc... /dev/hda may no longer be /dev/hda. If you don't rearange the drives so the numbering is correct from the way it was you'll have to change your boot loader params and your /etc/fstab configuration...

Win98 was Master, RH Slave both on IDE 1.  I did another Install of RH on my 3rd HD and put it on IDE1.

The previous Installation now is on IDE2 along with the HD that had Win98.
Win98 was hda, and RH was hdb by the way.

Dont get me wrong, everything works just fine. I just need to mount the other 2 HDs and am all set.

I am just confused on how the KDE and NVIDIA drives are now present on my previous install.

You all must think am losing it, frankly so am I.
