I used to use Kazaa lite in Win9x. What is the better P2P client in Linux? and are there any dangers?
*meow!* I didn't say Linux was easier, I said it was better, Dumbass!

I'm not sure there is one...

In linux you are generally stuck with the gnutella P2P's. If anybody else has had success with any others id like to hear about it.

There's something called LimeWire...

i just got Qtella today which recieves files from a lot of networks and it SUCKS. i tried to get that song "Boogie Fever", although it found 150 files, i can't download one of them! it always says closed then when i hit resume it goes says Qued then error then back to closed. i went to Kazza on my dad's Windows computer and found the file in 10 seconds and it took exactly 37 seconds to download then i FTPed it over to my Linux computer so i can listen to it.

I'm thinking about making a p2p program for linux, although i have better experience in winsock then linux sockets. I doubt I could pull it off yet. But perhaps a team of people should get together and do it.

make one that runs ilke Kazaa, by that i mean it actually DOWNLOADS when you ask it to download!!!

make it so clients cannot restrict the number of simultanius uploads but can control the max upload rate (just so the file at least moves a BIT)

I said I was thinking about it. I'm not as familiar with c++ as I am with visual basic. And if I were it would help if there were a group working on it, more input and I can't handle all of it. Not with school coming up. I'll need to read a few things on socket programming, which I'm new at with c++, and a good method of sending files. I was thinking of sending it byte by byte, but that would go slow. There are a lot of compression stuff out there also. I was also thinking perhaps before it is sent it could be compressed as much as possible, then expanded at the other end after it's finished. This wouldn't allow the play-while-downloading feature of mp3s and such, but downloads should be faster. As soon as I get it off the ground you can expect me back here asking for help.

I prefer IRC on any platform for P2P. Unlike the other clients, i haven't gotten any spoofed files and i can easily get the stuff i need. Sure, it takes some learning to get started ,but it is worth it.
