Is this a purchased copy or a downloaded copy? If it is downloaded and burned with a CD writer it is *very* common for the RedHat CDs not to get burned correctly, not sure why. But as X11 (bob) says, one of the first things you should see when booting the install disk is a media check. You should run that and make sure they all pass.

This is when you are trying to boot from the RedHat CDs to do the install right? It should have nothing to do with anything on the hard drive. Looks like a bad CD to me (or an incompatibility with the CD-ROM drive). I'll do some checking though.

Can you view the CDs in Windows? If so grab a floppy disk and create a boot floppy using "rawrite" which you will find in the \dosutils directory on the first CD. The image you want to write to floppy is in "\images" on the first floppy, one called "boot.img".  You can also try running the autoboot.bat file in \dosutils and see if that works.

Sorry about that, I forgot you had Mandrake up and running. Creating the disk actually would have been easier in Mandrake using the "dd" command. Oh well..

Set your BIOS to use the floppy drive as the first boot device and see if you get that same error, or just double click on that autoboot.bat file, or try both and see if they all give the same error. If they do then I would say there is a BIOS setting that may need adjusting relating to memory or processor.

No, I believe you have a bad CD. Did you create this CD or did you buy RedHat?

Can you borrow his boxed set and use his CDs to do the install?  If it works, have him reburn your copy. This is a *very* common problem of getting bad burns.
