Apple's market share?

Does anyone know what Apple's real market share is? I hear 5%, then I hear 10%, then I hear 3%. And does anyone have any actual sources to back it up?

That *real* market share is 5.873924195323014%.    There is no way to tell for sure, it's all marketing spin anyhow. As long as you have one your happy right?

I've heard that because of the huge explosion of PC sales, with all the Dell and Gateway commercials, that Apple has around 2 or 3 percent.

But like void man said, it doesn't matter what other people think or do, as long as you have the best of the best, your the best.

how exactly is market share figured out?? is it based on os/machine sales? if it is, i could see where linux market share would be very difficult to figure out.

Yeah, that's what I keep telling Zombie but he don't listen so good.

And if it's counted by browser user agent, that's no good either because everyone sets their browser to "IE 5.5 on Windows 98" so they don't get turned away at web sites that count such things. Of course I don't set mine that way. If a web site turns me away because of my user agent string I send them a copy of the Mellisa virus.

Hey, great FAQ entry. We should read the FAQ.    One thing I noticed when viewing this entry. It is an entry that could be fairly dynamic. We don't post any dates on our FAQ questions. It's prettier without the dates but I like to see entry dates so you know how old information is that you are viewing. The date on text is a big factor that goes into my complex and massively parallel search engine computing algorithms implanted into the back of my head.
