The Council of Better Business Bureaus has suggested Apple Computer withdraw its claims of the world's fastest, and first 64-bit, PC after a complaint by Dell.

WMD:

quote:Some Slashdot poster:
Microsoft: Windows is the best operating system!
Microsoft: MS-Office is the best Office program!
Dell: We have the best deals on our computers!
Apple: We have the fastest computer!

BBB: Apple, you're not allowed to say that...
Fair?

Come on, why does everyone pick on Apple...

Agreed.  Besides, isn't the advertised machine a dual 2Ghz (4Ghz total) G5?  That's definately faster than the rest of them (especially considering the PPC architecture).

It doesn't work like that. Putting in another processor doesn't double the speed of the system.

It does if the software running on the computer is writen to take advantage of the two CPU's.

The G5 is the first 64-bit chip to be backwards compatible, but not the first 64-bit chip in general.  The Athlon64 came out like just after the G5 came out.

No it doesn't. 2 CPUs are obviously faster than one, but even under optimal conditions it won't be twice as fast.
