Wow a theme manager that might leave a whole system unbootable. I guess Mac OS isn't so much like other *nix after all.

Heh... Ive installed a shitty GTK theme that left GNOME unbootable
Besides, the instructions are very clear. Don't use themes not made for the current system. The program even warns you before you apply the theme, that it may toast your GUI (if the theme is an old version).
So most toasting of the GUI occurs from people takeing that risk. For the record, I have only had one incident in the years I have themed OSX.
And it was because I didn't heed the warning.
Calum:
how can gnome be unbootable? simply change to runlevel 3, sort out the config file that's causing the damage and change back to gui level. no need to attempt a reboot at any point!
as for macOSX's gui rendering the system unbootable i suspect this is down to the system being too closely integrated with its gui. only one other system takes this too far, and it;s down the kludgie totally as operating systems go. plus apple and ibm both need to learn to stop copying microsoft's shitty assed ideas like this if they want more than niche markets in the software world.

Mac OS X's CoreGraphics layer works the same way as it did when NeXTSTep was released in 1988. Hardly copying off MS's shitty ideas.
As for making the system unbootable, hardly. Aqua requires the file Extras.rsrc to render the UI. Without this file, Aqua cannot start. To repair it is fairly simple on Macs that can boot OS 9. Start up to 9, and replace your backup copy of it. IF you dick around with the themes, you better be smart enough to have a backup of it.
Or, you could just log into OS X as console, or boot into single user mode and restore the file via the command line.
And no, OS X is not like "other UNIXes" because it's not "another UNIX". You idiots need to fucking learn when I tell you things.
I'll say it one last time. MAC OS X IS BUILT ON NEXTSTEP WHICH IS NOT A TRUE UNIX VARIANT.
flap:
Yes it is. NeXt is a BSD-based system, as is OSX. Considering apple themselves are quick to tout OSX as being "Unix based" I don't know what your problem is. Whether it "is Unix" or not is arguable, since unofficially the term "Unix" is pretty nebulous so it's difficult to say that one thing is Unix and another thing isn't.

Then just say it's BSD based ;)
