Well, after considering it and some advise from ppl in the forum, I decided to get a powerbook instead of an ibook  :D

Ok, this is want I found at ebay:

PowerBook G4 550Mhz, 256mb of RAM, 20gb Hard Drive and DVD Drive for $1,834

or

PowerBook G4 550Mhz, 256mb of RAM, 20gb Hard Drive and Combo Drive for $1,934

or

PowerBook G4 667Mhz, 512mb of RAM, 30gb Hard Drive and DVD Drive for $1,975

or

should I just get this:
iBook 500mHz G3 Processor, 128mb of RAM, 10gb Hard Drive, 12.1" Screen and DVD Drive for $1,079.

All of the systems are refurbished, but comes with 1 year of apple warrenty. BTW, is there any difference between the powerbook 550Mhz and 667Mhz (like different video card, etc) besides the amount of ram, and hd space. Do they also come with airport card installed? I read that the new powerbooks come with them.

BTW, I dun think I will need the Combo Drive because I already have a CDRW on my PC.

Any opionions or advise?

Thanks!!

I say buy a new ibook, the most expensive one is cheaper then all of the powerbooks you found on ebay.

The most expensive ibook is $1799, and one step down is $1499[both 700mhz w/ combo only difference is screen size & memory].  But anyways there have been rumors going around all the normal places saying november 5th is the date of a new powerbook, so you may want to wait and see if anything happens.

That Powerbook (with the DVD drive) is a STEAL. I got the same thing for $2600 (new) three months ago... just thought you should know  ;)

Well, the Combo Drive is the DVD drive, so I imagine you would want that...  ;)  Also, being able to burn a cd in a pinch is a nice thing. That model also has many improvements too:
DVI output
Audio In
32 meg Radeon 7500 (rather than a 16 meg Radeon)
Higher res screen.
Better quality screen.
including 1 meg of L3 cache

If you have the cash, go for it. Don't bother waiting for a new powerbook release, it won't affect the price of an ebay item (very slightly if anything). Most likely, the new powerbooks/ibooks will be small speedbumps.

PS: OS X won't be really happy with less than 512 megs of ram. You should definitely keep that in mind.

Words from a happy TiBook user.

Hey MacUser30f5, are you refering to the 667Mhz machine?

It actually comes with more memory, a bigger harddrive and airport card included compared to the 550Mhz models!

I will probably wait til Nov 5th, I still got to sell my PC away first to have some money for it.

BTW TRC3, I would only consider an iBook if I can find one below 1000  :(  Also is there any difference between the 500Mhz iBook models with the current 600/700Mhz models, besides the cpu speed and the size of the hd?

MacUser3of5:
Yes, the 667.

Get. It. Now.

If the iBook is a newer model, I believe the bus speed might be 100 Mhz (rather than 66), and the radeon has 16 Megs instead of 8.

But really, why bother with white plastic when you can go Titanium?    :D

Edit: Whoah, what's with my 2 star rating?! Did I do something bad?
