Zanf:
Hello all, I'm new and my mate has a G3 mac and wondered if he could use the cd for OS9.22 that comes with a G4 (and is marked G4 power mac).
Are there compatibilty issues in using the disc or is it a case of OS9.22 is the same for both?
Thanks for any help.

It should work...I used a G3 PowerBook disk in a G3 PowerMac. There could be complications...depending on what kind of G3 it is, it may cause problems (older hardware, legacy modem & ports etc)
Couldn't dig anything up on google.
If you want to upgrade it, BACK UP YOUR DATA. Don't upgrade without backing up your good stuff. Ever. Even if there was no risk involved.
Have phun with your Mac!

I have done similar installs on old first gen. iMac's, never seen any problems or issues. Shoulden't cause any problems.

I tried to load a G4/9.04 install disc on to a G3 tower and it wouldn't let me install the OS. Said it required a G4. If it works it works, but wouldn't for me. Had to get my hands on an regular OS 9 install cd.

Some OS versions only worked with the hardware they came with (and were modified to support the hardware).
9.04 was definately one of them. I can't find a list of the others though...
