I applaud Apple for that one. Same price range, but much more for the same price than the old line. And they seem to be very competitive, too.

Interesting that they didn't have a system bus similar to the PowerMac (i.e. half the speed of the processor) and the maximum RAM is much less than that of the PowerMac, but it looks great. Also very thin, I wonder how far off a G5 laptop is....

My biggest gripe with the iMac was lack of a fan.

It has a kind-of fan now.

I'm sold.  :D   Now to rob a store of $1300...  :(

The most attractive thing about the new iMac to me is what seems to be easily replaceable parts, maybe even the CPU in the future (though heat is a major concern there).  Check out the last photo here.  Much easier than cracking open an eMac or previous generation iMac.

There were a number of PowerMacs that shipped with their CPU on a removable daughter-card. It made things much easier to upgrade later on (like from a 603 to a G3 if you wanted). Maybe Apple should do that again.

Why do you want it to have a fan?  I like the lack of noise in computers with less/no fans.

Fan = longevity.

'Nuff said.

I'll bet if the G3 Radeon iBooks had a better cooling system, then they wouldn't have had those awful problems that kept killing them.

Although, I guess you can't really fault Apple for GayTI's faulty parts.
Go the fuck ~

Aha!

This new iMac only has 3 tiny fans on the bottom, which Apple says spin at 100s of RPMs.  That'll make virtually no noise.

Not to mention, the case is 2" thick and that INCLUDES the monitor.  Very cramped.  Too small for heat pipes...and don't get me started on convection cooling.  This is a G5 system with a modern (low-end) video card.

Remember the Apple III?  It got hot enough that over time (read:months), some chips melted off the motherboard, due to convection cooling not handling it.

That was 1980.

I bought an eMac just a few months ago.
Now I wish I had waited. Oh well, I'll probably still get one and give my girlfriend the eMac to replace her old 500Mhz graphite iMac.

As you can probably tell, I'm a big fan of AIOs.
