Rich corporations and individual like Microsoft and Bill Gates invest everywhere. It's common sense, they're not putting all their eggs in one basket, so to speak.
Remember though it's only an investment, Microsoft even have RedHat stock! It doesn't mean shit - Bill Gates is just getting a firmer financial footing.
There are probably lots of other cigar-smoking, business criminal assholes out there who have a stake in Apple and other tech. companies too.
