Are there any Apple clones?

Are there any apple eclones out there?

Are there any brand name store that would carry them?  In Canada?

Will you actually save any money taking this route?

Are there many parts stores for apple hardware (processors, and stuff)?

Thanks for your help

There were clones years ago made by Motorola, UMAX, and PowerComputing. Apple did this to try to increase profits, but it made things worse so they stopped. I don't know about today though.

iBox apparently. I think this may just be vapourware as I haven't found much:

ibox

I think there have also been posts on this forum regarding self build macs. I think it may be possible to self build a mac, here's a link for that, I'm sure there are others:

www.2khappyware.com  Although I believe they are having legal troubles.  And their comps weren't that much off of Apple's once you put the Hard Drive the CD Drive the Video Card, RAM, and the OS into the equation.

*Edit*  Wow... its not even there anymore.  I've been there when they were selling things.  Then I went there where they said they were having problems with a supplier (legal issues) and now they are gone completely.  I guess we have to sit back and watch.

It's a shame that Apple has the the hardware so well sown up, conversly I guess it's good thing to as they control quality, look at Gateway or Dell for example, no quality there really. I guess it depends how you look at it. Perhaps (Hope I'm not assuming too much here) cost is your prime factor, then it sucks. I don't believe that Mac's are over priced but they are perhaps just that little bit to much sometimes, it woould be great if you could pick up a G5 for $900 > 1000!

If you find anymore info on build your own PPC I'd like to know, I'll do like wise   ;)

Here is a site specialised in custom-built Macs. You can even trade your old Mac for a new one. I think It's only for the USA, though.  :(

I own a Power Computing Mac clone (604 proc @ 120MHz). In fact, it's my main Macintosh. Planning on popping a G4 upgrade in it later and running OS X with the rest of the world.
