Help me choosing a mac lappy
« on: 14 August 2002, 22:37 »
going mac laptop becuse all other laptops seem to suck the big one and only come with windows. Now my main intentions   orn mp3s and movies.  So all i really need is DVD support cdrw drive and Divx/svcd/vcd support. in a laptop i am prefable to something stable.  This is what i was looking at

12.1-inch TFT XGA display
700MHz PowerPC G3
512K L2 cache @700MHz
System bus @100MHz
128MB SDRAM memory
20GB Ultra ATA drive
Combo Drive
AirPort ready
Up to 5 hr. battery life
Only 4.9 pounds!

Do i need to upgrade the ram? and should i get the bigger hard drive how much does the OS suck up?( i am thinking yes since space is GOOD for movies and such) since i need the Combo drive i an't go to the lower option  :(
Thanks for any and all opionions! no mac flames and please for the love of god NO i am not buying   a windows pc. PERIOD.

I'm sure that whatever Macintosh product you buy will be of the utmost quality. Get somethin' that can run OS X though

I would suggest this

   667MHz PowerPC G4
1MB L3 & 256K L2 cache
133MHz system bus
256MB SDRAM memory
30GB Ultra ATA drive
Combo Drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW)
ATI Mobility Radeon 7500
w/32MB DDR video memory
Gigabit Ethernet
56K internal modem
1 FireWire & 2 USB Ports
AirPort Ready

Yes it is quite a bit more expensive but you will get alot more life out of it (3-4 years) You will also see a huge difference in speed (G3-G4)

Yeah.  Microsoft learned their ways from the parent  (IBM) very well....

I remember reading about some guy who used an IBM thinkpad as a block to stop his car from rolling.

That would make a great ad:
