What do you mean by this?  Just because Linux itself is open source doesn't mean developers have to make their apps open source to run on Linux.  However, one of Microsoft's scare tactics to drive developers away from Linux is to suggest that their "intellectual property" will be compromised if they develop for Linux, which happens to be utter nonsense.  Linux is more likely to catch on than anything like BeOS because Linux itself isn't a company.  Microsoft can't just squash something that isn't actually a business, just as the media companies can't squash gnutella since it isn't one either.

Gnome, Zombie works the phones at Microsoft. He has to rag on Linux to try and save his job. But that's alright, I'm sure he'll be able to figure out the fry machine at McDonalds.

BeOS ran on Mac's, and still does in my knowledge. I think the topic is fine here, so I'm leveing it as is.
