Dell vs. Apple

Im just curious. Is there some sort of hatred Apple users have against Dell? Ive noticed recently that Dell seems to be the enemy. Why not choose a bigger enemy with deeper pockets like microsoft?

because people are starting to learn about MS... but Dell? people are starting to believe Mike Dell's crap more and more.

they're the kings of undercut, and bait-n-switch, and other shady practices. their wares are shoddy, and their lies about "innovation" are as bad as MS.

most people don't have any idea that you can't run Windows... they could at least choose a decent computer to run it on.
Go the fuck ~

Dell makes crappy computters laden with thirdrate software in an attempt to garner the same brand recognishion, cache, and coll factor of Apple.

Unfortunetly they miss the mark.

Thier high end machines are nice, but their consumer models are underpowerd crap. Not only that but teh windows they install on those things is crippled and loaded with cheep imittation Dell made iApp's

I think thats the brunt of it.

I hate em because they are so freakin' annoying! The Dell Dude got fired so what do they do? They get a squad of over-acting twenty year old retards and put them in confusing situations and have them tell bad jokes. I can safely say that their ad agency is more annoying than Apple's (barely).

(actually the new iPod commercial is pretty decent)

one time a friend of mine(who constantly says I should get a windows comp) got a brand new dell but it was fucked when he got it so they had to send him a new one. He was gloating to me about how great it was that they replaced the system that was fucked in the first place

I'm a Dell owner, and i can honestly say that DELLS SUCK. Adjusted for price, they're probably almost as bad as emachines. I've never bought anything from Dell before, but I know I never will again.

Another reason to hate Dell if you're a Mac user is the minor rivalry between Steve Jobs and Mikey Dell.  The latter has a tendency to shoot his mouth off about Apple in the press rather frequently, and he always ends up being proven wrong eventually.  He made the infamous "Apple is done; if I ran the company, I'd close it and give the money back to the shareholders" remark a few years ago.  The guy is notorious for having his head up his ass.

He makes remarks like this because at the end of the day, he knows he creates nothing, he innovates nothing, he contributes nothing.  He will die and be forgotten by anyone with an imagination.  Bean-counters and those who think money is the only reason to be alive are the kinds of people Mikey Dell matter to, and even then it's questionable.

No, he is a jealous little man who longs for Apple's brand recognition and "cool" factor amoung young people (also known as "tomorrow's computer buyers").  He is hurt by the fact that Apple can put out an operating system upgrade and get more press than a full year of new Dell systems.  He knows that he just churns out the same crap other PC manufacturers do, with nothing differentiating except price.  He knows he runs a McDonald's or Wal-Mart operation, something that no one cares about.  People don't really love or hate Dell; they just plain don't notice it.  Which is worst of all, really.

So he shoots his mouth off about Apple, and . . . well, that to me is reason enough to hate the bastard and his little toy company.

Today some people at my school tried to convince me that Dell was far superior than Apple today, didn't go so well. They brought up the usual arguments like processor speed and initial cost. Even after I tried explaining things I couldn't convince them. Oh well, maybe someday I'll convince them . . .

You can't deny cost really... Dell's are cheaper...   :D  But you probably mean cost relative to quality or performance or some other unmeasurable shit like that.

The ratio of dollars to power and quality is a lot different, and then there's TCO.

I dont know much about Dell computers in terms of price or quality, however some of Dell's business practices are truly intriguing. For instance Dell sells their computers directly to the consumer whereas almost every other major computer manufacturer sells their computers through a middle man like a retail electronics store. This enabled them to keep more of the profits for themselves. This alone is smart business and the only advantage they have over the countless other computer manufacturers. My Aunt owns a Dell computer and it really has been no problem for her, however I own 3 Emachine computers and they all have run excellently for me, including my former web server which had over 200 days uptime.

The company that I think makes the worst computers is definately Microtel with Lindows.
