Laptop Monitor fuck up
« on: 2 July 2003, 08:10 »
Hello,

I have a Apple PowerBook 190cs and it seems that the monitor is fucked up. You can see it turn on but it doesn't display anything. It stays white.

I think it is a Britness/Contrast fault but that doesn't seem to work.

Please help me.

Sincerely,
Daniel

Is your computer actually functioning?

That is, is it booting up? Can you hear the icons moving in the background, beeps, etc... can you be sure it's the monitor and not the OS?

When you turn it on do you see the Mac face? The gray halftone screen? Etc.

Hmmm... sounds scary.

try opening up your laptop and hitting the hardware reset button on the motherboard.

Might be a loose or cracked video ribbon cable. Take a look.

If it's still under warranty, I commend Apple for not sucking this time. The 190cs was discontinued Sept. 1996.

it's not under warranty. the 190cs is considered an "obsolete product" because it's not a PPC Mac. the 190 is a 68LC040 version of the PB 5300.

Try resetting your PRAM. When you turn it on, hold down Command (the apple key), Option, P, R all at the same time until you hear the chime a couple of times.

If that doesn't work, it's very likely the display ribbon cable. It'd probably be cheaper at that point to get a newer used 'book. A Wallstreet G3 would be a good buy if you don't plan on running OS X. If you do, then look into the Lombard or Pismo G3, or an iBook 466 or faster.
