Mac OS X safest OS?

<< < (2/3) > >>

preacher:
Ive said it before and Ill say it again, the number of vulnerabilities in a system is irrelevant. It doesnt matter if its a MS, *nix, or Mac system. The only thing important is how fast errors are found and patched, and the competence of the system administrator.

However if it is server based then M$ loose big time, over 50% of attacks, and what an estimated 25 to 30% of the market (this is a figure that was quoted in this forum as coming from netcraft - anyone who can correct this please do)

Windows has a whooping 49% of the server market now. Windows has been getting stronger and stronger in the server market over the years. Windows is slowly replacing Unix. Linux is even starting to replace Unix(Linux has like 25% of the server market).

I didn't know Windows was doing so well in the server market until I came across
this article. I think that the writer of the article got the quotes from IDC.

It is pretty bad that Unix and Linux are losing the battle in thier own field(we all know that *nix is best suited for servers).

Ehhh? There are alot more uses for a server than just hosting website(netcraft surveys by connecting to http sites). What about all of the servers that are used as a FTP sever(for storage space)...what about servers that are used only as a dedicated gaming server(like UT, Q3, etc. serv ers)...what about the servers that are used as a method to connect to P2P networks(like the E-Donkey servers)..what about the servers that are used as an IRC server, etc.

Measuring marketshare only by checking http sites is an innacurate way of knowing what OS is mainly used onall servers in the world.
