A woman baked her PowerBook G4...LOL
Pictures: http://homepage.mac.com/aaronsteele/PhotoAlbum6.html

Story:

quote:
I work at an Apple Authorized Retailer and we just had a lady come in to see if we could fix her PowerBook G4. She walks in the store and comes up to me, "Sir, I've got a baked Apple". I laugh and she proceeds to take her powerbook g4 of the bag it was in. The top of the screen was a little brown and warped. I had my manager come up and look at it. He hadn't seen anything like that before. The lady opened up the machine and the screen was all cracked, and there was not a single key on the...

on the keyboard. I finally had to ask the lady how all of this had happened. As it turns out, she baked the PowerBook in the oven for 20 minutes. I kid you not. She said it with a straight face, and I could hardly keep from laughing. She wasn't joking. The thing was baked. She also kept every single key. She told us that they popped off while it was in the oven and she dug through to save every one.We told her that the cost of the screen alone would be around $1000 if not more, so she...
decided to leave the machine with us to discard of. Before we tossed it in the trash, I decided to try and power it up just for kicks, and it worked! The machine booted just fine! The screen is cracked and broken, but if you plug in an external monitor and keyboard it works like a charm. Ethernet, Modem, USB, Optical Drive, and HD all work just fine. I have already reformatted the HD and installed Mac OS 10.2.No, we don't know why she did it, but we are attempting to find out.

I am....speachless!!     What "finished me off" however, was that the Powerbook worked after having been "baked" for 20 minutes and there are pics to prove it! Why oh why do some people own something they don't deserve to own?   :(

There's a poll on that site's boards and so far most of those who have read the story seem to think that she baked it in order to dry off something she had spilled on it.    Oh, and others think that she caught her husband visiting porn pages and decided o destroy the Powerbook.

Either way, some people are so STUPID!

Any of the options would take an immense amount of stupidity. So much, I didn't know anyone had so much!

I hate to say it, but somebody took "Rip, Mix, Burn" a little too literally...

Joking aside, it's a testament to awesome Apple engineering that the damn thing still works after being baked in the oven.. it's probably the amazing Heat-Generating Lap-Burning Titanium Hunk of Burning Love(tm) casing.

But seriously guys, next time you think of popping a laptop that expensive in the oven, call me first. I'll take it right off your hands for you. What a waste of good hardware.  :(

With all of the docs that I have been through, that wasn't too much of a suprise. I have a very large collection of e-mails describing things like people putting keyboards into the dish-washer to clean them and cleaning ladies plugging floor waxers into 100V AC outlets on the inside of minicomputers. After reading through it things like this arn't such a suprise.
There is no expedient to which a man will not go to avoid the labor of thinking

Aye. I cleaned my keyboard in a dishwasher. Or is it that they didn't disassemble it first?
