Man that was not just a good link but an excellent one and an excellent article as well. Unbiased (first of all) and objective this article lays out the true history of the GUI from its very first concept in 1949 up to the symbolic 1979 and the years from then on.

EXCELLENT! To anyone who hasn't read it: Read it ASAP. The truth needs to be restored!

And I didn't actually link to the first page of the article, just where I thought it started to get interesting. You can select the first page from the pulldown menu at the bottom of the page.

I finally read it all. My eyes are sore but it was definitely worth it! Hence I wholeheartedly gave it a 10 and I would give it more if I had an option to   .
