OS X and ext2

I'm about to move overseas for a few years and want to buy a Powerbook to go with me.  Question is this.  I currently have some Linux servers.  If I was to take out the hard drives is there some way to plug them into a external bay and have OS X read the drive.  Its Linux format.  If OS X cannot read this format can this drive be reformated to work on OS X (it is a IBM ATA100 drive for a x86 Athlon system)?

Linux can mount both PC and MOSX (HFS) drives. If you had Yellow Dog Linux on the PowerBook, you could get the drives to mount. OS X MAY recognize the drives, as it is *nix at heart. Not sure though.

Oh, be careful. Reformatting erases all of the data on the drive unless it is explicitly noted as non-destructive.

As far as I know ext2 is invisible to OSX. I does read and mount UFS, the standard UNIX files system, I am not sure weather Linux can read those.

In any case, can you pleas fix your name. It's fucking up the formatting of these pages big time.

Linux can read more file system types than probably any other OS on the planet. UFS isn't so much of a UNIX standard as it once was. For instance, there are several forms of UFS that the different flavors of BSD use. Solaris does use UFS but most larger Sun systems use software RAID so you wouldn't be able to stick a Sun disk used in a Solaris RAID configuration and access the file system. Most others use their own journaled file systems now, AIX uses JFS, IRIX uses XFS, etc, etc..
