What would they do if Linus gave a talk?

Seriously though... fanboy worship of Ballmer?
Shouldn't the mark of the beast start making an appearance soon or something?

Giving flowers to a CEO? I mean, come on, maybe Steve Jobs, I might want to shake hands with him, and even ask an autographe, but flowers? To Steve Ballmer?

Eh, on a second thoughr, I might like an autographe from Steve Ballmer, as a souvenir of his excellent Monkey Dance and Developpers performances.

Its the Japanese ethical system. The richer and more succesful you are, the more respect you deserve. You can't say a bad thing about Sony corparation in Japan without being treated as if you just knocked out the pope and took a shit on his face.

Over there, they got these crazy ideas about respecting wealth and all that.

Apparently that line of thinking is more universal than I thought.

How saddening.

While, I admit a certain sarcastic tone, I am very familiar with japan and their culture. I used to have a Japanese girl friend.

My acount is based on my understanding of the culture. And indeed, wealth and success are highly revered over there. You don't put down somebody, person or company, that is viewd as succesful.

The reason I brought up Sony corparation for instance, was actually a bit of a media fiasco M$ had with them in Japan. I forget the exact circumstances, but M$ ran an add campaign directly attacking Sony's products.

In Japan, discrediting someone else in this way is considered in bad taste. And indeed got M$ a negative response. Thus, why I said that the admiration for steve Ballmer was likely related to this attitude.

You just dont slander someone who is at the pinicle of society, and you show respect. Sometimes, seemingly undue respect.

That's very interesting.... does it apply to anyone with a lot of wealth and success?  Does a billionaire narcotics lord get respect and adoration like Ballmer?

Nah man, they ain't crazy  :D

Jeez... It's mostly a big respect for successful businessmen, and wealthy people. Not to unlike the yuppie mentality in the 80's.

Over there, there is this huge sense of loayalty to companies and stuff. The workers put in incredible amount of hours and stuff.

But it's mostly the whole 'cant argue with success ' mentality.

Ballmer, in a lively 45-minute speech to nearly 600 students, faculty members and reporters, said software developers and governments should work together to solve security problems.

"We need to make sure that when there are problems, the damage is small and quickly corrected."

But where Win-D'ohs is concerned, the security problems are usually large & take a LOT of correcting (copious amounts of security patches for Internet Explerror for instance!)   It's one thing to acknowledge these problems, Mr. Ballmer, but how about actually doing something worthwhile to remedy them?????
