I've heard good things about the performance of Panther on G3 machines.  Of course, you'll have to pay for the upgrade . . .

Oh, and Apple likes to tout Office v.X because they seem to be focusing on business markets where M$ presence is the strongest.  Naturally they are targeting consumers also, but every computer company wants part of that pie.

Mmmmm . . . pie . . .

And yes, you can easily use your Mac without any Microsoft software.

The Mac version and the Win32 version seem alike only in name. They both crash about the same though. Sadly it's the most modern browser I can run under Mac OS 8.1  :(

what????????
i am certain you can get a more recent version of Mozilla to run than you can get of IE for that platform. have a look at this list of browsers, i am certain that IE is not the most recent browser for Mac OS 8, i just can't believe it.

Try Cyberdog. It's been designed specially for Mac OS 8.1 by Apple.

All versions of Mozilla I've tracked down require CarbonLib versions newer than the one 8.1 can run. I am incapable of running a lot of software unless I can find an 8.5 upgrade CD.

Let this be a lesson to the rest of you: When Apple charges $150 for an operating system upgrade, buy.
