Erm, that's not exactly news raptor. The fink project has been around since OS X.1.
It is identical to Synaptic for Linux and uses apt-get. You can also use fink-commander, a graphical frontend to fink, if you are not a big fan of the terminal.
I've used it so far to download Emacs and Lynx and all I can say is that it r0x. ;)

i should have worded it better! I was mainly wondering what the thoughts were on it.

dot.this:
I have a few X11 apps I actually use sometimes.
XV is a decent graphics editor. It's kind of like a free Graphic Converter with an eccentric interface.
I use GIMP sometimes.
AbiWord is a pretty good free word processor.
Amaya is the only free WYSIWYG HTML editor that runs under OS X.
There are other I use sometimes, but those are the biggies.
Calum:
actually mozilla composer is a wysiwyg html editor that runs in macOSX (doesn't it?) and there's an openoffice.org beta that runs under X11 in OSX and it no doubt contains a wysiwyg html editor (the linux/x86 version does).
