Toast Titanium and ISO's...
« on: 17 December 2002, 02:20 »
What up fooz  :D  ,

Is there a way that I can burn a CD straight from an ISO image in Toast Titanium?  I would like to download and burn Yellow Dog Linux but the site says that mounting the image and then burning will NOT work.  As far as I can see, there are no options to burn straight from an ISO.  Any suggestions?

Thanx guys!!!

I use "cdrecord" on Linux. I see you can get it for Mac OS X as well (included in the cdrtools). Maybe someone has a better suggestion but I really like cdrecord for ISOs. I wrote a little script so all I have to do is "mkcd filename.iso" and it starts the burn in background so I can log off if I want and someone else can log on while the burn is taking place, then the CD ejects when it's done. Of course if you can use the CDR tools you can probably also use xcdroast, but that would require you to have X installed, cdrecord does not depend on X.

Since you already have it in ISO format you would only need to perform step 6 on this page:

I'm sorry Void Man.  I should have been more specific.

The only pooter I have connected to a fast enough internet connection (to download YDL) is an older Mac running OS 9.1.  I have Toast Titanium 5.  It's the only thing that will work with my CD burner so I really don't have any other options as far as programs go (it's an external Yamaha SCSI CD-R/W).

I wish I could run OSX!  :(

Thanx for the speedy reply though! Sorry again for the non-clarity.

My fault, I assumed you had OS X. And I have been told many times by people much brighter than I of the consequenses of assuming.     Oh well, maybe it'll be useful for some of the OS X'ers.

Hey, don't mount the ISO.

You can burn it using diskCopy in your utilities folder.

Open up DiskCopy and say burn CD from image. Select the .ISO and burn away.

If you want to do it in toast. don't mount the image.

Go to the other formats, select ISO945464 whatever... select the image, and burn. That should do it.

EDIT: hehe... umm... I don't know if the old disk copy does this. But the OSX version does. In any case, Toast should be able to burn the ISO fine. Just follow what I said above.

Here is a helpfull link:

http://saturn.med.nyu.edu/help/burner/iso.html

EDIT again:

Even better, this from the Mandrake PPC site:

"1. Download the image as a binary file (not as text)
2. Open Toast 4 app.
3. Select "Disc Image" as the type of CD to burn. You can make this selection from the Format menu, or in the Toast panel itself.
4. Click the "Data" button in the Toast panel.
5. Find the ISO image using the finder window that appears and "Open" it.
6. Click "Write CD". That's it."

that should do it.
