Hooray, I finally got a bootable system folder with everything I need (and it only takes 36.6 MB). Everyone has been a great help and soon I'm going to install Linux (Debian, so that I actually have enough room to do things). My friend wants to get a new ATA hard drive, any ideas? He has about $200 and the same computer model as me.
