The admins at my university decided to close terminal rooms 1 and 8, since the bureaus there didn't fit health regulations (go figure... they couldn't be adjusted in height). They should be back open in a week or so though.
Why is this bad? TK1 and TK8 are solaris machines. TK1 are slow and ugly (but nearby), TK8 a little faster and breathtakingly beautiful (OK, not *that* much, but still.)
TK2 is still open, and a replacement room is also available.
With Windows.
Argh.
Most physicist like Unix better - most projects, programming, text editing and of course playing MP3's is done on either the Solaris machines or our own little Linux server. So we're pissed.
Now, Windows has telnet and an X-server installed, so you can still do Unix work, but it should be obvious why that doesn't work right. So we're stuck with Windows for a while.
