Computer Game, not stupid? Has Microsoft froze over?
« on: 16 February 2003, 10:00 »
I’m not so much of a gamer any more, well at least not what I used to be anyways.  The last game I can really remember getting into was Final Fantasy X way back in 2002 January.  Since then I haven’t bought any more PS2 games.  Until last night.  My friend kept urging me to watch .hack//sign (anime on Cartoon Network) I’ve seen three episodes now, and it is so-so and being the RPG lover that I am picked up a copy of .hack//infection for PS2.  I figured it was going to be pretty gay (like a lot of movies that are about computers).  To my astonishment, it was actually believable.  The game has a weird ass story line, your inside a MMORPG and technically playing a RPG.  I’ve never been a fan of MMORPGs, but a simulation of a MMORPG seems so cool (weird eh?).  In a round about way this has nothing to do with MES, but this game sure is coo despite what moronic bastards have to say about it being confusing (windriods I betcha)

My brother has a Runescape addiction (Runescape is a MMORPG too). He even paid $ 30 for a membership, so he has more weapons, armor, eviroments etc.

Anyone else with a MMORPG addiction?

The main reason i hate MMORPGs is because of this.  I pay money for a game (fifty bucks), I should be able to play that when i get home correct?  This is sometimes not the case with MMORPGs, you have to pay for the game PLUS!! pay for a monthly service that you can play online (considering it is online only your fucked)  Now, with World of Warcraft, well unless MS get their hands on them, will definitly be free.

I heard there will be a fee for WoW. I think it'll be well worth it though. This game is going to be ground-breaking!

Yes, monthly fees are annoying, but easily understandable. It'd be suicide to release a MMORPG and not charge a fee.

BTW, WOW will have a fee.

"Will there be monthly fee to play the game?
Yes; however, we are still investigating our business model and have not yet determined what the fee will be.

Why isn't World of Warcraft free?
World of Warcraft will require a fee to play. This fee will be used to support the costs associated with the high-quality levels of service, support, and ongoing content creation that we are planning for World of Warcraft."

I too can understand why they have to charge a monthly fee, but that bill can add up fast, fast enough to buy an offline RPG to keep you entertained for that period of time.  These online ONLY games piss me off though (mainly on consoles).  Final Fantasy XI, and i do so love FFs, is i am sure of it doomed because of it being online only.  A computer game can pull Online only off because most comp gamers already want to game online, but the internet on consoles is new and users are not sure of it yet.

A simulated MMORPG (.hack) in my mind is better than any MMORPG i've ever played.  That also includes Morrowind.
