Browsers? We don't need no stinkin browsers.
« on: 3 March 2003, 10:30 »
So can somebody explain to me why every Mac review I read somehow complains about browsers being slow on the Mac?

they all say things like IE 5.2 is slow (which it is), so I tried Chimera which is buggy and fetureless (HOW MANY FUCKING FETURES DO YOU NEED IN A GODDAM BROWSER!!! and I have yet to encounter a bug in the latest chimera), then they go on to label Safari as Lackluster.

They all skirt over Mozilla, Opera, OmniWeb etc.

Anyway, the general concensus allways seems to be that the browsing experience is the best under IE in windoze.

I don't use windoze everyday, and rearly on the web. But I gotta ask, Safari, Windoze IE? What diffrence? I browse just as speedily and rearly have content issues.

Any folks out there care to enlighten me?

I do not understand the features fetish. why does every app have to have 5million "features"?? safari rocks because it is so small & to the point, same with chimera. (what is chimeras new name by the way??) They probably skip over mozilla & the others because they are "Full Featured" browsers that make browsing on the Mac bearable.. fucking microsoft whores. i use windows at work (3D Studio viz & Autocad) and browsing with internet explorer is not fun, nor does it come in as the best browsing experience. If Internet explorer crashes, my whole system is brought down. If mozilla crashes, no problem. mozilla renders pages faster, has a more advanced download manager, plus comes with a halfway decent mail app, unlike outlook express. I would bet that these people writing these reviews have never used anything but Internet Explorer....

i like phoenix 0.3 or maybe 0.4 best. roughly 6 to 7 MB in size, has all the features you need in a browser. i haven't tried chimera but i bet it's the OSX twin of phoenix. good stuff, and what more do you need? and if you're the kind of person who doesn't want do download a separate mail client and html editor, then use mozilla and get all the benefits. it's all free, it's all open source and anybody who doesn't feel spoilt for choice with that and opera and apple now starting in on khtml is pretty dumb.

those fuckers that think the world ends at netscape can go and jump for all i care.

I use IE with Windows 2000 every couple weeks (whenever my teacher lets us browse the web) and I have to say that the Windows IE is pretty crappy. Not only is it slow, but the controls are hard to use, its impossible to browse two sites at the same time with the stupid "window for a program," thing that Windows has and *gulp* worst of all there's no tabbed browsing!! Mac IE is really farely decent compaired to Windows IE, both in looks and in use-ability.

No thanks though, I'll keep my Mozilla.

After using mozilla for well over a year now, I can look back and tell you why IE was the suckiest browser ever.

The worst thing about IE was the pop ups. Basically if someone was malicious enough in their scripting, they could change your home page, continuously pop up more banner ads until the end of time, resize windows, change your desktop, do whatever they wanted, Mozilla has ways to prevent this, IE does not. Then look at IE, it is ugly. At least mozilla is skinnable. I dont care what some stupid mother fucking Windows users think, Mozilla is just as fast as IE and I have never had a problem opening any website, but I can count the times I have visited a Microsoft website in the past year on one hand. If it is absolutly necessary to use IE to visit a website, you can tell mozilla to identify as IE easily. I doubt you could get IE to identify as Mozilla no matter how hard you try. Plus flash and java work just fine in mozilla so dont expect an inferior experience. The worst the about IE is the security. There were more serious security vulnerabilities in IE than any other browser, and there are many that microsoft has yet to fix. In my opinion, the best browsing experience is on any OS, with Mozilla.
