Are you Tired of all the Microsoft Bashing Yet?

Your computer mysteriously reboots every 20-30 minutes? Question. Do you have a good quality 350w or better PSU

I have an Antec 430w PSU.

quote:
The reason it would restart in Windows and not in Linux is because Windows actually uses your hardware to the full potential that it was designed for. When the hardware is being used the way it is supposed to be used it will consume the power that it was designed to consume.

--- End quote ---

Actually Windows is compiled with i386 flags so it will be compatible with older processors.  On Tom's Hardware they installed XP on a 486, although it ran painfully slow it did run.  At least Mandrake is compiled for i586 machines.  And my Red Hat installation has a lot of stuff compiled by me with athlon-xp flags (such as the kernel)  Linux has never, ever crashed on this computer.  Even after 5 hours of playing Warcraft III.  In fact, my uptime was 20 days until I rebooted to install XP.  Mind you XP would crash while browsing the web, not playing games or anything.

quote:Also, if you do have a generic high wattage PSU or a low wattage generic or name brand PSU...do you have a shitload of fans and drives connected to it? The consume power too you know.
--- End quote ---

I have an Antec case with a TruePower  power supply, and it is very quiet and stable.  I have a cathode light that's about it...  I have about 3 fans, but I don't consider it overkill.  I checked my CPU temp in the BIOS and it seems just fine.

quote:
Random restarts are normally a PSU issue...not a Windows fault. Windows problems can often be fixed or prevented if you know what the hell you are doing.

--- End quote ---

Seeing as how I built this computer, I think I know what I'm doing.

quote:
Go pick up a 350w or higher Antec PSU(Antec PSU's deliver adequate power to all of the rails) and see if you get random restarts.

--- End quote ---

Naw, that would be a downgrade.

Thank you for the suggestions but I don't think it is a hardware problem -- It's a software problem.

no, i do not reboot every 20mins...i have to give credit to microsoft for stopping that habit with the release of win2k. but programs still run slow in any windows, and do not in linux.

i build my own computers (cept my laptop), so as with linux user, i know what i'm doing

Yup. To each his own, I say.If you prefer Windows, don't let me stop you. You probably have your reasons.

Well, the Roman Empire fell.

Zombie, you really need to click here

Let me put it this way:
I am on a public (Mac OSX) computer.
I have a choice between IE and netscape.
As I am using netscape I do not have the protection against scripts that Mozilla provides.
Conclusion : YOU BITCH!
(nice site though)
