I stumbled upon this anti-microsoft site, and as much as i agree with most of it, I cannot help but admire Bill gates and his corporation.
When i was a kid i wished to be rich, now i earn 60 thousand pounds a year, and i had to step on alot of peoples feet to get where i am.

When the first car was invented, dont u think he got pissed off because the whole started to copy his idea for 4 wheels, doors, windows etc?

Competing in a market and making money is perfectly fair, but using the dubious methods microsoft have used is not. Would you say what hitler did was fair because his first steps to power were legal?

i dont have a problem with people tryin to get money, cause im still tryin to get money. however, when one product comes force fed to you then i have a problem. People ask why does the underground hiphopers hate commercial rap? because of all thier money? no. if you do good music and get money cool, when you jump on the band wagon and talk all kinds of stupid shit cause it sells to a key demographic thats when purists like myself say fuck commercial rap. its all about purpose or intent.

It's not about his money. I could give a fuck less if he made a gazillion dollars. As long as none of it came from me that is because I don't use his crappy software. His low life tactics make it harder and harder every day to use something other than Microsoft software. Not because it's better, but because he uses closed protocols and file formats that make it difficult to communicate with people who use his shit. If he played by the rules that everyone else played by then I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I also think it sucks that I can't purchase a computer from a major manufacturer without a copy of his crappy operating system on it. I don't use it, I shouldn't have to pay for it. My only choice is to build my own computers which I have been doing for the last 5 years.

I'm all for free markets and making $$$ but Micro$haft software is crap.  The main problem is the closed nature of the software.

Micro$hafts OS's are toys, nothing more.

Closed source is unscientific quakery.  You would never support closed door scientific research so why support it in software.  Open methods and research have created our current standard of living...closing off free and open enquiry with closed source code and the current trends in copyright law will destroy all that we have.

And Welcome to the forums, I once had this exact thought of yours. It was set in my mind that Microsoft was just a bissness that made its way providing *great* products to us which keep us with the lovly technology. But in reality Microsoft have jumped in the way of bissness. If they did not exist the computer would be so much further. What you dont understand is that when software is free (as in freedom) things are better. It was not just Microsoft but Propierary software altogether that made the Computer Industry what it is today...

And you are probably thinking "Its not bad the way it is though?", well have you seen what it would be like without it.

When propartary software started in the late 70's it killed development. For example Richard Stallman, the founder of the free software foundation has a very very interesting experience with him read his story here: http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/shouldbefree.html
