As great as this is and "go OSS!" I would say a bit of it is regionial pride. Wind0ze is from America and Linux was written by a Swedish Programnmer. last I checked Sweden (with Linus T.) is closed to Germany than America (and M$) Although there are alot of other factors as well (TCO, security, privacy, et c) regionial pride is an overlooked factor here.

Yes I must concur.  Germany would not be the technological leader it is today if it weren't for their habit of dumping superior options for patriotic reasons.

For gods sake, they chose the best solution there was, a city the size of Munich is intelligent enough to choose the best solution not the most "patriotic" one.  And why the fuck would Germany be proud about Torvalds being a (swedish speaking) Finn?
