There's no such thing as a 'liberal' or 'conservative' party. They are ideologies, not political doctrines.

There is here in the UK, we have the "Liberal-Democrats". We also have the "Raving Loony Party" & "Pork Pie Party".
Don't know how serious you are in Canada about politics, I assume quite. The French influence I imagine is very political almost militant :D
You also I just notice, have a Loony Party in the US....I urge you to vote for these next election. They seem a lot more honest than any of the other so-called parties, Pfff! Democrats, Neocons ;) , Republicans, all rubbish.

In my government class we made our own parties and my group made the Insurrection party with the t-rex as our character, then on our poster we drew a huge picture of a t-rex stepping on a donkey and eating an elephant. We pretty much mocked the entire assignment. It was tight.

Yes, some parties are called 'liberals' or 'conservatives', but the party does not always reflect their name. We also have a Liberal party in Quebec (PLQ), elected a few months ago, and they have a very different definition of 'liberalism' (ie. liberalism for corporations, not values). They are going to dump all the good ideas of our social-democracy (e.g. tax-paid health services) and privatising everything, and make us become more and more like the United States.
I would say we are active politically in Quebec, though not as much as in the 60-70's with the rise of the Parti Qu
