Dont you just love power outages when your in the middle of a game or something with no backup battery on your comp?

It jsut happened to me   :(

In the middle of a game talking to some people.
I also just lost my 33 day uptime on my Linux box
  :(

On a different note, what are some of your Power outage horror stories?

i was just playing diablo2 w/ 2 ppl for a few hours (no school today), but right in the middle of the game, i suddenly can't see anything. and it was completely silent too!!!

luckily, we had a huge battery backup thing that i ran a light off of for a few hours, but it eventually ran out. i was just trying to goto sleep till about 9:50 i guess it was i heard noises and lights, and i came on here

Mine was pretty damn high (22+ days)...until a power outage. I'm with you on that one, Maniaman.

Hrumpf. Speaking of uptime, I can hardly believe it myself. (despite the cries of "fake" I'm sure I'll soon hear   )

All on a dinky old Dell running 400mhz, 256mb RAM, 5 GB notebook HD, running Kazaa, Windows Uptime, Bulletproof FTP, Norton Antivirus, Windows Explorer, and VNC 24/7.

Nothing really fake to speak of except your uptime/activity(?) is above 100%

Where is your start menu? Hidden? Or are you running it as a DOS kernel (Someone in the screenshots thread did that)

It's 3am on a Friday night (or Saturday morning I suppose). I'm playing Warcraft 3 against one of my mortal enemies on bnet. I'm listening to System of a Down very loudly. There are like 7 people observing the game. I have a huge army. I'm about to win!

System of a Down is suddenly very quiet. My monitor is black. Everything is black! I look toward the sky and yell, "KHAN!!!" (well not really)

Even worse, I had just been watching a documentary on UFO abductions and ghosts. I'm a very paranoid person at night. There isn't a flashlight anywhere. I'm stuck in a creepy old room in pitch black at 3am!

I creep to my room, which is luckily very nearby, and go to sleep.

Now that I've conjured up these memories I'm suddenly feeling paranoid again.

there was an ice storm in my area, and every machine except for the compaq rebooted. the fractional section outages shutevery thing down but that one machine, for somereason i think im going to pull its plug, and its going to type

"are you sure you want to do that choas?"

on the screen and then try to kill me. or else maybe that powersupply cable was only half of what was done to it/*if a compaq engeener saw this machine, he would cry*/

the power went out here a long time ago when i had redhat on my server, It didnt go out until "after" the storm and when i turned my server back on. My server went off and then the power came back on, so i turned my server on, then the power flicked off again. My hardrive was fucked after that

And my uptime was 42 days with Redhat7.3 but i then upgraded my server hardware and software. SO now its only a few days.

hmm  well about one and a half/two years ago a power outage fried my entire computer including screen   . It was a nice p3 650, 256mb ram, 10gig HDD, 8x DVD-Rom, 2x CD-R, 17" Digital crt, 100mb internal zip, SB PCI 64, GeForce2 MX. I was pissed and computer free for a week    - I managed to piece together a celeron to  wait until I upgraded a little while later to my duron.

The power outage that hit me, took out the whole city and nearby cities. Only lasted about 2 minutes... If only I had a backup abttery on my server.

The server that I have in my signature is located at www.rackshack.net, so it has a battery and a generator (and rackshack is in the same city as me: in fact, same zip, apparantly!!!)
