you use impulse tracker foobar? cool ... I did a lot of stuff with IT a few years back ... some of my stuff was on www.traxinspace.com which has misteriously vanished from the face of the earth which sucks pretty bad seeing it was the only place I still had some music online (afaik at least)

impulse tracker is *really* powerfull though (MIDI support, all sorts of cool realtime sample effect, volume envelopes, panning envelopes... you name it)

maybe I'll install win98 on my other box and actually do something with it again (or install soundtracker for linux on my main box... it only has XM support though, no IT support)

Calum : my ISP had some network troubles which kept me from creating an account ... I'll keep trying over the coming days and let you know when they fixed it....

edit:

forgot I had 2 songs online, check them out if you wish (they were made about 3-4 years ago I think)

okay... run that by me again? how does that compression work?

also, no i haven't used gnutella, i know next to nothing about networking and that's one of the things i don't know...

X11, that's a shame about those old mp3s, i still have them, maybe i could email them to one of you to share.

Boomspeed just deleted all my stuff about 2 hours ago without even telling me. I am very annoyed. My site is now hosted at http://www.geocities.com/calumsmusic/ in case yr interested. The three mp3s in question are still there, available for download including one new one about Melbourne's weather! (to make up for X11 losing those old mp3s maybe...)

lastly, i have no qualms about posting my email address as it has great security features, and it's on my site anyway, it's [email protected], and symphonic metal sounds great! looking forward to it...

Now, forgive the idiocy of this question but, if the files are being shared on Gnutella, can i link to them from a website? i know, dumb, huh? but what's the answer? sorry for being so clueless!  :D

You can compress those using PKZip and change the extension to ITZ. Then go to http://pweb.jps.net/~olivierl/

i am indeed, also i have no idea about gnutella, so basically an explanation of enything on this page would be good as i am hazy on most of it!  :D

Gooseberry clock, why would i want to do that? i am sure there is a good reason, but i have not clicked that link yet, and i like to know what's going on before i embark on a mad link race around the internet, so maybe you could put a paragraph in your posts explaining your links, because i'd actually like to know why i should zip them, then visit that site (and so forth)

calum, you cant make a hyperlink to a file on the gnutella net (afaik)

the impulse tracker format is not compressed, it is a music format which incorporates soundbits (samples) in order (patterns) which enabled you to create music (this is a *really* simplistic explanantion)

so if you have a midi file, the sound of the file will be determined by the midi hardware you use to play it on ... a module (as the it format is called) will allways sound the same on all players (not considering a few exceptions) because the samples are embedded in the file.

didn't think i could hyperlink my songs from there...

re: sounds like compression to me, otherwise how could they get all the sound in such a small space? is it just intelligent sampling, where the same sequence is repeated to approximate the actual recording???

the samples are just wave files ... the patterns describe in what order and in what key the samples should be played......

this link should explain a bit about the mod format

It's based on the Amiga sound chip which can play four different sounds at different speeds all at the same time.

And the link goes to the MODPlug Tracker home page. No Comet Cursors or anything.
