MacMan,

First of all, I have previously said that, you need to change your file extension to *.ppg so it will display from your angelfire link.

Second of all, eliminating the floppy only accomplished one thing, it saves apple $15-$20 per unit.

Come on, it takes 10 seconds to transfer a tiny little file to floppy. You can reuse that floppy many times over. It is still cheaper and faster than using your superdrive.

And no, some people can't just e-mail or transfer files on the network.

Get rid of the floppy? ROTFL...

We can't just go on using floppies forever. It was a bold move for Apple to stop this floppy nonsense. It's easy just to go get a portable floppy drive and use it until theres a better alternative.

And i must have missed the .ppg thing. What the heck does that do?

*cough* ZIP drive *cough* *cough* 10$ Zip, 100MB *cough* *cough* USB zip Drive $60 *cough* 100 1MB Floppys... HAHAHAHAH ROTFL *cough*

Fuck Floppy drives, they sucked, will suck, allways have sucked. Apple made the right move, get with the program folks there are better alternatives.

I mean seriously? I have 5 Zip disks, everyone has a Zip drive, At least everyone I know. So that's maybe 100 bucks for the disks and the drive, total (give or take $20), that's 500MB's of removable ultraportable storage! Don't even tell me keeping 500 Floppy disk's around makes sense cuz if you think so you can suck my cock.

Not only that, but a fucking CD-R spindel of 100 CD's!!! 700+ MB's each!!!! Is worth a misely 20bucks!!!!!! Do the math, that's a goddam nickle a CD! That's dirt, burn away I say.

FLOPPYS SUCK! sorry, but they do, there is no way I am being swayed on that.

EDIT: Don't forget the fact that you can allways do sector burning. That is, just one bit of the CD at a time (prvided that you have a good burning App, like Toast or Nero on the PC), so in essense you can use one 5 cent CD multiple times to transfer small files icreesing it's longevity beyond the single burn.

Anyway, I don't use floppies and I don't miss them either. I just use my ZIP drive...

I'm going to the macheads side here: floppy drivers and useless garbage. Why, the last time I used a floppy was. . . Sheesh, I don't even remember. . .  It was a smart move when the Apple removed the floppy drive. People should stop being so dependent on them. The only flaw with the iMac that I could see was the fact that it didn't have anything that replaced the floppy drive (i.e a zip drive, super drive. . .)

Floppies and serial NEED TO DIE NOW!

It's the fault of the mobo manufacturers too...if they stopped putting the connectors there, PC makers wouldn't be able to put floppies in the machines.

Uh, you better redo your math. Still cheap, but not a nickel. Using your math (100CDs/$20) if you got 200 CDs for $20 (200CDs/$20), the price would go up to 10 cents each.        That should have been $20/100CDs which comes out to .2 dollars per CD, or 20 cents each. Still, less than a quarter.

removing floppies from new machines to wean users off them is pathetic. it's my computer and i'll have a floppy drive on it if i damn well please, and no backseat driving company will tell me otherwise.

and that thing about getting an external floppy till something better comes along, what a crock of shit, if there's nothing better, then why not just have floppies in the machines in the first place, and you purists could just... NOT USE THEM!!! (gasp!)

many files will fit on a floppy. floppies cost about 40p each, compared with

No, floppies are not obsolete. if they were, people would no longer be using them.

If you want a goddamned floppy drive then get your own, dont make the rest of us pay for one when we buy our computers.

Floppies are 80's technology and the only reason people still use them (which is becoming less and less true) is becuase computer companies keep installing them on 21st-century computers!

I think we can call this thread "The Floppy Wars"
