Just 2 weeks after release: Office 2003 flaws!
« on: 7 November 2003, 21:16 »
Just 2 weeks after Office 2003 was released a major bug was discovered in almost all of its applications:

quote:
The flaw, which could result in lost work, applies to three of the four core applications in Office 2003: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

quote:
Problems may occur when documents created by one of the three Office 2003 applications include a graphic built with the OfficeArt tool, and are opened and saved by an earlier version of the application--one from Office XP, for instance.  When the document is returned to the Office 2003 app and opened there, it may be corrupted, may not open at all, or may open with some content missing.

Backwards incompatibility anyone??

quote:
Although Office 2003 went through a beta test program that Microsoft called its most extensive ever--including an unprecedented refresh of the second beta that delayed the release of the suite from its original early-summer date to October of 2003--the problem still slipped through.

Any surprises?

quote:
Outlook, the fourth major app in the suite, is not affected.

But it is affected by every single virus on the internet.

What I find appalling about Office 2003 is that full functionality cannot be achieved unless its integrated with a Windows Server 2003 backend. So now Microsoft not only bundle web browsers with thier desktop O/Ses but you also need thier server products as well for full office functionality.

I wonder of the word(s) "anti-trust" is understood by the office 2003 spell checker.

Mad.
