What really sucks about two-party systems is that you don't even have a choice between a minority and a majority government. In canada, we had four candidates the past election, so we basically had eight choices of government. Better yet, a minority government can easily be forced to resign if everyone refuses to accept their budget programme.
Now, I don't know how things work in the U.S., but if it works like in Canada, then if you only had one more serious candidate, you would have six choices of government as opposed to two majoritary governments whose parties hold very similar politics (and no, I'm not talking about issues like abortion and gay marriage!)
