DivX and e.Digital screw WMV!
« on: 20 April 2002, 07:55 »
Any of you interested in DivX? Any of you just hate Windows Media? So do I! So this is great news for all of us that DivXNetworks has just partnered with e.Digital. ( http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/020409/90258_1.html ) This means that we'll soon see the first DivX capable DVD player coming out!
But here's the problem: We have yet to set a standard for a DivX CD.

Solution: MCF-CD, a new standard created by Ingo and Tronic. MCF-CD is designed for the MCF file format, but I guess it works with Ogg or MP4, but not AVI. The advantages of MCF-CD over just buring a file to data CD is that because MCF-CD is in Mode 2, you can fit 800 MB of video instead of just 700.  This means better quality and more storage.

I started a thread at the DivX.com forums ( http://www.divx.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=32308&forum=5 ) to persuade DivXNetworks to make MCF-CD the standard for a DivX player. Many of us here at fuckMicrosoft.com hate Windows Media and would rather see DivX rule MPEG-4. I know I would.  And I'm sure that many of you out there are damn good open-source progammers, too. So come on! Let's get this accomplished.

We need your help, fuckMicrosoft.com.
