Can you help me decide if I am crazy??
« on: 14 January 2003, 00:56 »
I am currently pursuing my bachelors in Electrical Engineering, but I have been seriously considering switching majors to either:

a) Compuer Science
b) CPET (Computer and Electrical Engineering Technology)

The reson I am in an EE program is because I enjoy Car Audio, and thought that I might find a career in Research and Design, something along the lines of Digital Signal Processing for either head units or amplifiers. The problem is that after becoming involved with computers and learning more and more about them daily I still have a desire to learn lots more but don't know how much learning about computers on the side will affect my EE work.

Everyone I work with or go to school with or my family members tell me that I should just stick with EE as I will have more opportunities with it as far as a career goes, including possibilities for the Computer industry (mostly along the lines of Engineering I would imagine - hardware?!?!?). But I actually want to learn about using a computer, as I am now with some of the various flavors of Linux. I know this is kinda long but does anyone else view this as a bad choice in the long run? Just trying to figure stuff out before I get too far into EE in case I want to change.

Stick with Electrical Engineering. The computer market sucks right now and I don't see it changing in the near future but I certainly hope it does. You can always still get a job with computers if you like.

Don't switch - my dad did an electical engineering degree and got into the computer industry. He went from embedded programming onto software programming, now he does all sorts in the computer industry.

DO NOT SWITCH. I cannot see why anyone would want to so limit their options.
