People thank Microsoft for its crappiness
« on: 24 November 2003, 21:17 »
Some are claiming that Microsoft and Bill Gates deserve lots of thanks for creating such crappy products because all Windows bugs, how-to-fix books, tech support, etc all help the economy in major ways.

Truly sad, if you ask me.

This just illustrates the fact that even if you hate M$, as I do vehemently, you still can capitalize on their shitty products. Let's all just hope the desktop end of publishing that book was done on a Linux box or a Mac....

like the fact that hotmail still runs off of freeBSD servers 6 years after microsoft originally bought it? imagine, they can't even run their own servers on mswindows, even given a six yearrunning start!

Hotmail DOES NOT run FreeBSD anymore...were've you been the past few years?     Hotmail has been running Win2k Advanced Server for quite a while now.

As for the article, I once told someone exactly this as a joke.     :D

From what I understand, the guts of hotmail run on BSD, and the frontend is hosted on win2k server.

That was absolutely correct - about a year ago.  The entire backbone runs Win2k now.
