How many of us here have a weight problem?
« on: 24 September 2002, 11:12 »
Since we are mainly with computers.

I was a marathon runer. A mile on 6:13 minutes. I was at 6,2 and my weight was going between 185 and 215.
For two years i exploded to 300 pounds, yet everybody thought i was around 230. but now am almost back to normal, 235.
Yeah

I maxed out about 220 but am currently probably between 200-210.  I'm only 5'9" but I don't believe I look all that tubby although I am much more so in the last 5 years than I have ever been.  I probably never got over 180 before 5 years ago.  I am fairly muscular but no doubt have some extra flab.

Been trying to work it off by hard riding on my dirt bike as often as possible. That was working out really well until I watched the X-Games one day and decided to spend the day practicing jump tricks and ended up landing on my head and busting my collar bone and shoulder all to hell.

So now I have about a month under my belt of very little movement/exercise (hence the large amount of posts on this forum). Coupla more weeks and I should be again racing through the woods and burnin' off flab...

I spent 15 years in the Air Force and toward the end I was getting really close on weight for my height. What sort of field are you interested in?

well to reply to the subject here, i am a lazy assed bugger with a bit of a pot belly, but i don't really have a weight problem. I'm 12 1/4 stone, so what, that's 196 pounds. And at 6' 2 1/2 " i reckon that's an okay weight to be.

Im 225lbs, 5'9". I guess im too fat, 28% body fat. But I got a somewhat big frame(I think, maybe im just average? 43" chest), and a 43" waist, so I hope im better then the standard 225lb 5'9" person fitness wise. I honestly believe that for me, losing weight is only a matter of consistency in hitting the gym. I've gotten down to 210lbs before, and a few years ago I was 280lbs.

Lifting weights is the ONLY thing I like to do. I feel I know alot about what it takes to succeed in the gym(none of this super complex stuff, just stuff that should be "duh" but isn't). That is why I feel that "height/weight" thing is something you need to think carefully about(depends on who you are though). Piling on a whole lot of extra muscle, being an active person who eats too much and doesn't lose his belly, or being an extremly large framed person can all throw this out of whack.

Im 17.80 years old, so I still got a few more years of growing to do. Even if im doomed to 5'9" or 5'10", your susposed to grow larger in terms of width, muscle, and thickness until your early 20's. As long as im large, im happy with 5'9".

As you can tell by my name, im Lazy. I Try to balance it out with some activity.

Thats a Question that bogles my head all the time, for a year now.

I am very into physical activities. So am thinking someting along the lines of Infantry (Rangers and such). Then again i just started picking up Arabic and the fact that I am already  bilingual and with the 60 something credits in Psych opens other doors, like psych warfare or translator or something.
Then again am gonna have Computer programming under my belt so there is a possibility i may head  for something to that area.

About this am very confused on what to do. If i can find something that can combine a little of everything that would be good.

One thing though is that even if they wont take me as an Officer I wont mind at all going in as a private. Hell am gonna be happy just by being there.

I am not looking to do what is gonna bring me money, so thats why I am thinking the Armed Services. I always had a fashination about it.

I will start acting "serious" when am 50 or something.
My parents are fucking  FREAKING out though.

Don't go for basic infantry, it is waste, you said you are clever so why be cannon fodder? We have Mc Donalds employees for that...
Try and get in as an officer with your degree.

Yes, if I had it to do over again I would have attained my degree prior to joining. I was always interested in airplanes and flying. Being a pilot in the Air Force requires a degree as well as making it through flight school. Not having a degree at the time I went in as a mechanic (Crew Chief) thinking I could work my way through college and then become a pilot. Well, only a few have been successful at that route. I found it to be much more difficult once in as an enlisted person. I spent 11 years as an F-16, F-4, and A-10 Crew Chief.

Much of that time I also played around with computers in my off time and even ran the second largest BBS in the state out of my house at the time. I got *very* little sleep between the hours of mechanic work and the hours of programming and running a BBS by night. I decided it was time to drop one of the two and retrained into the Computer Programming field. Best move I ever made.

The only reason I got out of the Air Force is because they gave me an assignment to Mississippi to be an instructor and I no longer had the desire to move. Actually my kids were doing very well in school and didn't want to move. So my only option was to turn down the assignment and get out after my term was up.

No problem, I immediately tripled my salary upon entering the Civilian world as a programmer/administrator. I immediately started in a job making more than my full bird colonel commanding officer was making at the time I walked out the door. So that is something you might want to think about.  I agree, with the others. If possible get your degree before going in. Get into a more technical field, one that you are interested in, and one that will be marketable when you get out.

All I can say is, the Air Force was the best thing that could have happened to me regarding my career path. You get to meet a lot of good people and learn about their life experiences which will no doubt be unlike your own, and you get to see much of the world (if you want to). Not to mention the outstanding training you will get (might not realize that benefit until you get out into the real world).

I don't want to suggest one direction or the other, I just wish you luck in whatever you choose to do.

Me too, although im not a crackhead.  But im kinda tall and lanky, long arms and too skinny but I cant gain weight, I eat all types of shit but stay the same.  I figure I only have another few years of being this skinny, since my dads rather large, so I guess I should enjoy it while I can.  I dont go to the gym or anything, tell you the truth I havn't lifted a weight since 10th grade P.E.  I try to go skateboarding everyday but lately Ive been slacking off and sitting at home on my computer alot.  Shit, what am I doing, I should be out skating right now!
