Squirrel helps police with their enquiries!
Calum:
I know this has nothing to do with Microsoft or computers but i really think that this deserves a mention. I spotted this article in the paper by chance on the bus this morning!
quote:from Metro (UK daily newspaper) Friday May 31 2002:
He may not have the gleaming coat and eager eyes of Lassie or be able to glide gracefully through the water like Flipper but Nutty the squirrel has claimed his own place in the annals of animal heroes.
The bushy-tailed detective led police to a real criminal's lair.
The story began when officers were called to a garage in Bath at 1:20 AM yesterday and arrested a 20-year old man on suspicion of burglary. When they returned later to carry out a search they were met by a grey squirrel sitting in front of the garage.
The animal - and, remember, the police are prepared to swear this in a court of law - then appeared to indicate that it wanted the officers to follow it.
A spokeswoman for Avon and Somerset police said: "The squirrel scampered down the path and kept stopping and looking at the officers to check they were behind. They followed it for about 100 yards before the squirrel climbed a tree - and around it were these boxes of loot. We apprehended a burglar and recovered stolen goods with the help of a squirrel."
The grateful officers rewarded the animal with a handful of nuts.
With a clear-up rate like that, squirrels are bound to form part of the next crime initiative.
