HEY! www.unixsucks.com
« on: 1 September 2002, 08:19 »
The current posts between you and the other guys are pointless, you know that. So why don't we forget about trying to one up each other when it comes to operating systems. Nobody's gonna convert this way. Right?

I think there's hope for you yet, if you want. After all, why would you keep coming back here? I know you like to spew piss and venom, and these guys only edge you on. But deep down, I think you have an interest in *Nix, don't ya? Go ahead and deny it, I wont force it out of you.

Maybe, you like hardware though. Do you get a tingle when you see a barebone kit for sale? Does that give you ideas about a new system? Are you excited about 3ghz coming soon? Are you using a big ass 19 inch monitor? don't you want one? Come on, I know we have something in common! Are you browsing on a sweet cable hook-up? Give the OS wars a break for a while. Let's talk tech.

I'll show you mine (specs)

AMD Athlon XP 1800/ AMD fan
Epox 8kha+ DDR motherboard
256MB Crucial Micron DDR
GeForce2 Ti
Sblaster 16 pci
Logitech Z340 speakers, very good for $40.00
20gig hard drive (weak I know)
Lite-on 24x cd-burner
Pioneer 12x DVD #116
Iomega 100mb zip
Antec KS282 case (sx830 is way better, but$)
Cheap ass $19.00 15" monitor (but the picture is sweet)
Most important, blazing cable hookup thanks to Cox@home.

so come on, share.

    ;)

Thix goes for XP User #whatever, but I don't think he's even around anymore, is he?

Oh yeah, I also have a HP 5100c scanjet, and Suse is supposed to have FULL support, Yay! I haven't tried it though, but so you know, this damn POS wont work in anything else but Win95/98! Not even WinMe, until now.. it's a Linux scanner!

Same goes for that old POS Canon lbp-465 printer, don't even think about it! It sucks as a printer period, plus Win95 drivers only! Fortunately the toner works in my $7.00 HP Laserjet 5L....Yeah, I'm a hardware bargain hunter!

Would be nice to see the specs of everyone around here, here are mine:

Main puter is a black Dell Dimension 4400 in which I swapped everything except the Intel 845G chipset motherboard, the P4 1.8 GHz and the 384MB DDR Sdram @ 400MHz.
The rest :
Geforce 3 Ti200 64MB
Terratec Xfire 1024 soundcard (not good in Linux)
Harman Kardon speakers + subwoofer
2 x 100Mbit Intel Pila 8460C3 Nic
Western Digital 80GB 7200RPM HDD
IBM Deskstar 40GB 7200 RPM HDD
Iomega Peerless 20GB external HDD
Sony Floppy drive
Lite On 16X DVD drive
Plexter 40X CD-RW
Logitech Gaming mouse
Dell 17" monitor
Epson Stylus color C70 printer
And on top of this a pretty good cable connection (even if the upsload is capped @ 128K)

[Edit]; it came with a 20GB Maxtor with XP pre-installed, first thing I did was take the HDD out, put it as slave in another pc and fdisk the whole thing  ;)

not to mention the stereo that is bi-amped, meaning high freqs goto the main speaker, and the low freqs goto the subwoofers, i was thinking about picking up a cheap set of 12" subs, you know, the ones that yo-boys drive around with, and sticking them in my room, and maybe putting 100watts through them
ok enough of my stereo

i want an athlonxp2600 or so, but its not going to hapen, so ill have to be happy with a 17/1800 that i might get

I want that big ass 19 inch monitor!

Anyway, why do you mirror your drives?

And why do you have dual ethernet cards? IP masquerading?

I mirror my drives because I am a programmer, and when I test software in it's early stages it has a tendancy to f#ck things up, and usually crashes before the f#ck up is mirrored, so I have a perfect working copy (usually) whenever I do something.

I have dual ethernet for 3 reasons:
1) I am too cheap to buy a router.

2) I am too cheap to buy a 10/100 hub, but I need the speed.

3) I use the computer as a honeypot sometimes. I use the internet to one of them and the other goes to the monitoring computer.
