Nice thinking 99.
Ever heard of protest, we dress up in penguin suits (Ok mac people can make hats out of iMacs or make a G4 suit.) and then we chain ourselfs up in there lobby yelling "Join us now and share the software, you'll be free, you will be freeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" (ect)

The fact that I like this idea disturbs me greatly.

how about writing a form letter with verifiable data of the severe cost savings of linux over m$ and related security issues. put in a couple of comparisons of applications and features, so the recipient gets the real truth. then send it out to all government, scholastic, corporate and media represenative. it cant be vulgar (aside from the word microsoft being part of it), it must be very well written, consise and let everyone reading know just how much money they could cut out of thier budget for extra coffee, crack, or hookers. if you get government and business to force sheeple to use linux then when they get home they will look at thier bsod and think "hmm i can legally get a disc for free to fix this permenantly".
once the sheeps start to want linux then m$ will have no choice but to find another market to try and buy.
people want linux, most business and average people want what linux provides they just have the wrong info to go by. seriously, how many people do you know that have said " man this POS windows box fucked up again, i wish microsoft or someone would just fix thier shit to work right." or " ya i just had to reformat again, wish i didnt have to do this everytime my kid touches the damn thing."
most people think that you have to have a degree in CS to even install linux let alone use it. which i know from personal experience is utter bs. if they knew half the truth then thier half a wit would get them to try it.
all we would need is a few people working on the letter, a few people working on the background data, a few people to collect the email address, and it would be kick ass to have a site setupwhere the reader could either download or order a no cost cd. hell if we could get the collective I.Q's around here to making enough money to actually send out via snail-mail the letter with a cd, well i think we could hold a nationwide m$ cd burning party.
ive seen enough on here to know there are some really fucking smart people here. more than what would be needed to pull this off.
anyways thats my nickel, you can keep the change.

AVELLO - that was a GOOD GOOD GOOD idea!
and that's rare on these forums these days.
i'd be happy to help with this idea. i wonder where we would come up with the funds to cope with sending it out and who would donate the time to dealing with all the replies it would definitely generate.
I think we would need to ask the webmaster too for permission to sign the letter 'The Microsoft Eradication Society'.
Kintaro:
How about TV advertising, newspapers, seriously Red-Hat, Mandrake, and SuSe should get into it.

we would need to generate the funds ourselves. if we actually got incorporated then we could apply for grants if we achieved tax-exempt status then there would be more funds available. i was originally considering a business that would supply the funds. of course we would have to think tank for the best result.
i do think that if we emailed at first then we could get it rolling on the cheap. i think all we would need is a forum for tech support to start out. also if we got the ball rolling (got the letter together and a good plan of attack) and went to different linux distrobutions we could try to get funds from them. if we get 10 magor distros then they could spread out the costs between them. maybe then we could snail mail out. maybe let the distros include a page of advertisement(screenshots/features) with the mailer. we could also work with them to get maybe a cutdown version of the different version(most use similar kernals or something)so we could let the people get a good taste of the true difference out there. if not just have a sampler movie. with a web address to request a free cd of the distro of thier choice.
of course the first step is to get organized. if we get this rolling well then the news stations will pick it up.("some adventurous people on the net got tired of being the underdog.....blah blah blah") you know how it goes.
