phpBB requires a database (you have MySQL) and PHP (which i see you have).
Lycos provides those services for free, but with very narrow bandwidth and frequent downtime.
However i am happy to announce that my OpenOpen forums are now fully functional.

right on. i was hoping to run a small forum for my artForms project. a small community of artists (Fine arts & Digital arts) to gather and show their work. very off topic....

I think CD Spamming is the best choice. People are lazy, you gotta really give the stuff away to get them to even consider trying it. Cuz if you say "Send away for a free OS CD!" they won't. They are lazy.
They get a free OS cd in the mail, it's a boring saturday afternoon and their windoze box is on the friz cuz of the latest virus attack, they decide to give it a shot.
Bingo! instant convert.
The guidions can do it with Bibles, surely we can do it with CDs!
This is an option that must be explored.
