What it will cost you in order to get started in Programming.

If you wanna go the MS route you will need
Microsoft Windows95 $64.00  .BSOD BSOD closed source.

Microsoft Visual C++6.0 Professional Edition $285.00. Very tempermental. A total of $349.

  Linux.
48  Dollars if you buy a Linux book from a bookstore and the OS is practicaly  open to you, to see its code.
Anjuta Dev Studio. Resembles MS Visual Pro edition so you can have a very easy transtition and its free. You dont need it to do C++ but its just nice eye candy and helpfull for beginers.

I was thinking of this today in class. How many students can afford a complete solution for their programming needs if they go the MS route?
I am talking about everyday Smos like me.
Yeah

Actually, I got some good C courses with KDevelop (which is free) and there are some very good ones online (for free).

That makes the total cost about $0.10 (or so) to $100 or so (depending on your connection, how you get Linux, how you get the docs etc (If I were to download Linux, it's not free - the phone company will be pleased though)).

Of course, you COULD leech those files of a friend's PC, with one of their UTP cables, which will reduce cost even further (well, there's always electricity  ;)  )
