it's not exactly like Cartoon Network is for kids. Only about a third or quarter of their programming is suitable for the younger crowd.
Oh, and since when has Star Wars worried about body count? Star Wars' body count was in the billions... Empire's was in the tens of thousands, Jedi's was in the tens of millions.
It's Star WARS. What is it with people and war nowadays? Anything that has to do with war or fighting is a "tragedy" and people whine and cry about it.

But anyway, it's cartoon network, and CN sucks shit. They started out as a kids network, then tried to turn all hoity toity and cater to the "older crowd" by showing watered-down edited anime, and then realized that they found their cash cow there. Show crappy edited versions of popular japanese animated series and all the dragonball z crowd will love it.
They ruined Cowboy Bebop... Watanabe Shinichiro should have sued them. They'll never show Neon Genesis Evangelion. About the only thing they've got that's not chopped up is Big O... and even it didn't survive.
Big O was forged in the name of God... you know... a deity. So CN changed it to "good" because they're pussies.
But anyway, George Lucas will kill you. Dude can't write a screenplay to save his life, but he's still got the storytelling SKILLZ
