I did a little messing around with the files for Opera [version 6, haven't tried any others] and there is indeed a file similar to MSIE5x that keeps a log of every link you've ever visited, even if you clear out all the cache/cookies.

But there's a very simple solution:

When you're done using the browser, simply close out of it and find the file "vlink4.dat"

Change the extension to .txt ("vlink4.txt")
Open that up and you'll see the entire list of your visited links. All you have to do then is clear out the list, save the text file, and then change the extension back to .dat.

That's all there is to it.

Why don't you just hold the "Shift" key down, then right click on the vlink4.dat file and open with "notepad" (then check the box to always use notepad to open files of *.dat type).  Save you some renaming...  Better yet, put this command in your autoexec.bat "copy nul c:\pathtoopera\vlink4.dat".  Since you are running Windows it means you probably reboot often and this file will get zeroed out every time you reboot. But what do I know, I'm not a Windows user.

Not every user knows how to do that, so I explained it in a way anyone could do.  ;)

Thanks for the extra tip, though.

I guess that's why Windows users are so stupid. Nobody teaches them any new tricks.  Reread my note, I added another tip so you don't have to do anything and it will get wiped out all by itself.

That's nice, now fuck off and stop acting like an asswipe. Just go back to your linux and let people who might actually need this to find use in it.

If you don't need it, then shut up and stop bitching about it.

kthx lar.

Anally raped by your father on a daily basis?

I'd guess that's what made you such an asshole. Hell, i'd be pissed at the world too if that happened to me.

It's okay man, just take some paxil and huddle back into your dark, lonely corner of the world, wishing you had a friend that wasn't hooked up to a modem and could only speak in text-form.

Someday, someone will love you, I'm sure of it. Don't give up hope. Just because you're covered in zits, nit-pick when someone is being helpful, and act like an arrogant cunt just because you use a system different from somebody else... that doesn't mean you're always going to be unpopular and die alone. Of course not.

jackass.

Hmm, not really. I'm just naturally mean.

This is one of the most entertaining threads here yet! Keep up the good work guys. Seriously though, good work VoidMain, i will be taking your solution rather than panaphobia's, correct though he/she may be, i just think that automated/command line functions are a tad less suspicious/likely to fuck up than all this 'open it up as/rename it as' stuff.
Pretty good, for a non-windows Linux dude.(what am i saying, Linux dudes know command lines inside out!)

Also have you tried cleaning out the file and then setting it's ReadOnly attribute?  Will Oprah crash or will it solve your problem for good?  "attrib +r vlink4.dat".  Or right click on the file and click "properties" and check the ReadOnly box.

Both ways will work [what I posted and what VoidMan posted]. But I wanna thank VoidMan again, both of your methods work much easier.

Pesky little log file be damned!

panophobia:  Tried what you suggest and it doesn't work.  Opera just renamed the read-only file to "vlink4.old" and created a new vlink4.dat file.  I use jv16 Power Tools and now have it set to delete this file on bootup.

Oops, I see is was VoidMain who made that that suggestion.  In any case, it doesn't work.
